Since 2006, Toronto has been celebrating the best in modern art with Nuit Blanche: an all-night event that provides attendees (over 1 million!) with an unforgettable artistic experience! This year, Nuit Blanche is curated by the Artistic Director Dr. Julie Nagam who selected the theme “The Space Between Us”; she has invited artists to “transform” the city by sharing stories about their unique connections to place while bridging cultures and connecting with communities and their environment. Pieces presented as part of this year’s event will unite the international, national, and local communities through art, exploring shared experiences through the lens of Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour (BIPOC) communities globally as they amplify Toronto’s local voices in the universal language of artistry. The partner-produced Independent Projects of Nuit Blanche features 50 projects celebrating the diversity of Toronto’s art communities!

This 12-hour event will include massive light installations, sculptures, performances, fashion, and will also feature innovative Augmented Reality exhibits by over 30 artists! The Nuit Podcast series Belonging to Place returns with a second instalment, featuring conversations with artists, elders, arts leaders, and scholars from around the globe as they delve into projects and themes explored at this year’s festival. They aim to uncover the stories and connections between cultures and the environment to guide the future of public art in a 10-part podcast series. Additionally, starting this Tuesday, September 27th, Nuit Blanche Toronto and the RUTAS Festival will host Symposium: A Home for Our Migrations, bringing together artists, community activists, and scholars for lively conversations, keynote speakers, performances, and workshops!
