Toronto has received extensive acclaim for their dining scene this year, with the city’s first ever Michelin Guide being published back in September. Now, Air Canada has brought back their highly popular Best New Restaurants list, and Toronto has 3 spots in the top 10!
Fonda Balam
Kicking off this list is Mexican eatery Fonda Balam, recently ranked as the seventh best new restaurant in Canada! The reincarnation of Birria Balam, brought to life by Kate Chomyshyn, Julio Guajardo, and Matty Matheson (we’ll see him again later), they’re known for their polished take on Mexican street food with an eclectic variety of tacos; this includes carnitas, beef tongue, and deep fried tacos!

MIMI Chinese
The third best new restaurant in Canada is Mimi Chinese, and they’re serving up, you guessed it, authentic Chinese dishes! Executive chef David Schwartz and executive sous chef Braden Chong have created a menu with raw and cooling options, savoury and warming options including a stuffed chicken wing, delicious noodles and rice, and more! If you’re feeling adventurous, you can let the chefs curate your dining experience for a reasonable $100!

Osteria Giulia
Chef Bob Rossi, formerly of the critically acclaimed Bestellen, is the head chef and founder of Giulia, a sleek, authentic Italian eatery. Offering an expansive menu with a variety of authentic options (including a delicious $100 prix-fixe menu), Giulia has more than earned it’s Michelin Star and it’s title as one of the best new restaurants in Canada.

Prime Seafood Palace
The newest venture from one of Toronto’s most popular chefs, Matty Matheson (there he is again!), Prime Seafood Palace features creations with delicacies from the sea courtesy of chef Coulson Armstrong. The selection doesn’t just stop at blue fin, king salmon, and grilled Humboldt squid; they also have caviar, bone-in striploins, prime rib roasts, and much more! Get treated like royalty at this palace!

Restaurant 20 Victoria
Topping the list of Canada’s best new restaurants is Toronto’s Restaurant 20 Victoria! Chef Julie Hyde and Sous Chef Jenna Reich curate a six course seasonal menu that changes on a whim, so guests are guaranteed a unique experience with the freshest of ingredients! In addition to a thoughtfully curated wine list, Restaurant 20 Victoria offers a beverage pairing to accompany the savory portion of your meal. Past dishes on their menu include a seafood tower, kale caesar salad, prime rib, and much more!
