On April 8th, 2024, a rare celestial phenomenon called a solar eclipse will be happening over Canada, the United States and Mexico. If you’re not sure what a solar eclipse is, it is a unique celestial event where the moon aligns between the Earth and the Sun, immersing everyone into darkness for a few minutes. Between 2:04 pm to 4:31 pm, Toronto is expected to have a near-total solar eclipse, with the peak expected to happen at 3:19 pm, where the Moon will obscure the majority of the Sun's light. It is important to note that you must use eye protection when witnessing the solar eclipse. Directly looking at the sun is hazardous at any time, particularly during an eclipse. Such actions can pose serious risks to your eyes, potentially leading to permanent damage and loss of vision. For ways to avoid eye damage during the solar eclipse, click here.
