This week, nine gelato spots in Toronto made the Gelato Festival World Ranking, the world’s most comprehensive industry ranking for individual gelato artisans. In addition to these three, Toronto has so many amazing gelato shops that you definitely want to check out this summer. Keep reading to find out which Toronto spots made the list and more!

1. Death in Venice Gelato
Death in Venice placed 81st overall in the gelato rankings and is made in the heart of Toronto using local produce. You can also go behind the scenes and experience a 16 course gelato tasting with a visit to the gelato lab.

2. Futura Granita + Gelato
The owners of Futura attended Carpigiani Gelato University in Italy to study the science and art of making granaita and gelato. Their speciality is granita, but they also have delicious gelato. They placed 129th on the world rankings.

3. Oretta
This delicious Italian restaurant first opened its doors in 2017. Their exclusively Italian menu consists of many authentic Italian classics, including gelato for dessert. Their gelato was 69th overall in the Gelato Festival rankings.

4. Dolce Gelato
The founder of Dolce Gelato, Pino Luca, is originally from Italy and was taught the essentials of authentic Italian gelato by his family. His vision champions all natural ingredients and boasts no preservatives.

5. Mizzica Gelateria & Cafe
During the summer months, it’s not uncommon to see a long line outside of their Queen Street location. They’ve won numerous awards and placed 58th on the Gelato Festival World Ranking, the highest ranking for gelato any in Canada. After much success downtown, they recently opened a second location in Midtown Toronto.

6. Bomba
Located in the St. Lawrence Market, bomba is inspired by the tastes of Italy but then elevates things to a full-blown flavour experience. They are a family-run business that loves to play to adventurous ideas and uncconventiall approaches.

7. Bar Ape
Bar Ape offers gelato soft serve, sundaes, bars, cornetti, and pints to take home. Check their Instagram to see which flavours they’re serving and be sure to bring cash!

8. Nani’s Gelato
In a number of South Asian languages, the word ‘Nani’ means grandmother. In every batch of gelato that they produce, they infuse the love and passion of their mothers and grandmothers. Nani’s offers unique flavours from Asia, India, and Italy. They ranked 138th on the gelato list.

9. Sicilian Sidewalk Cafe
Sicilian’s is an authentic Italian gelateria and it’s the oldest one in the city. Since 1959, their gelato has been based on a secret family recipe.

10. Gemma Gelateria
Gemma Gelateria was voted the Best Gelato in Ontario in 2022. Located in Yorkville, they have delicious flavours that you can even order on Uber Eats.

11. Ed’s Real Scoop
Ed’s Real Scoop has been proudly serving Toronto for 20+ years. Small batch ice cream, gelato, sorbet, and yogurt are made locally at their four locations. They ranked 143rd on the gelato rankings.

12. Lola’s Gelato
Located in Etobicoke, they offer gelato made from scratch in small batches with quality ingredients. They also offer made to order premium gelato cakes with the flavour of your choice. 13. On Third Thought
On Third Thought is a gelato and wine bar near Trinity Bellwoods Park. They offer allergen-conscious & vegan friendly gelato, handmade in their shop located downtown Toronto. On the Gelato Festival ranking, they were 142nd.

14. Your Gelato
The founder of Your Gelato, attended Carpigiani Gelato University in Toronto. They make their gelato in store, using natural ingredients. They also offer plenty of dairy-free choices.

15. Spaccio
Spaccio’s gelato ranked 143rd overall on the Gelato Festival World Ranking. They are part of the Terroni family and you can finish your delicious meal with some gelato.
