A product of the Prohibition era, Speakeasies were bars that people would flock to when the sale, manufacturing, and transportation of alcohol was illegal throughout North America during a period in the twentieth century. Despite alcohol being decriminalized and a bar seemingly on every corner now, there are some establishments that preserve the culture and the ambience of these forgotten taverns; here are our picks for the best speakeasies and hidden bars in Toronto! (keep it on the down-low, though, and don’t tell them we sent you)
AfterSeven
Tucked away behind Kome Yogurt, AfterSeven is one of Toronto’s newest speakeasies! An eccentric Japanese cocktail experience, AfterSeven uncovers new flavours through modern interpretations of classic cocktails. You want to get in? Order #8 on the menu at Kome Yogurt and you’ll find your way inside!

Located inside Coffee Oysters Champagne (wonder what’s on their menu?), À Toi (French for "to you") is a small boutique hotel built in the 1920s by French Millionaire Antoine Mercier. Today, it serves as COC’s best kept secret, but one that you can learn about by asking for the champagne tour!

The Cloak Bar
We’ve discussed Marben and their farm fresh items recently, but did you know there’s a secret bar inside there? You’ll find The Cloak Room; where the vibes are on point and not much is known about their menu, so it looks like you’ll have to go and find out yourself!

You’ll find this little cocktail bar above Little Italy’s DaiLo; LoPan Bar is one of our favourite spots for #sickasiansnacks including the Big Mac Bao! They’ve got a cocktail menu crafted by Chris Flink of Flink’s Drinks, and have a bright array of neon lights for those unforgettable nights!

Hole in the Wall
Pretty on the nose with the name; the Hole in the Wall is one of Toronto’s worst kept secrets, but it’s still a nice little spot in The Junction. They’ve got a huge list of craft beers, and a massive food menu including wood-fired sourdough pizzas!
Where: 2867A Dundas St W, Toronto, ON, M6P 1Y9.
