Having fun in the winter doesn't have to be expensive. There are lots of fun winter activities in Toronto that are completely free! Here's a list of free winter activities in the city.

1). Lumière: The Art of Light at Ontario Place
This annual art event taking place at Ontario Place allows the public to explore the park and immerse in art developed by Ontario artists. Watch Trillium Park celebrate the change of the seasons from winter to spring and see the park be illuminated with light and innovation.

2). Go on a winter walk
Going on a winter walk and escaping the noisy city can be refreshing. Immerse yourself on a peaceful winter walk in the city. Toronto has many free trails for the public. We recommend the Glen Stewart Ravine, Rouge National Urban Park, High Park or Tommy Thompson Park.
3). Go on a tobogganing adventure
Make use of the winter snow and go tobogganing in the city. There are many different tobogganing hills in Toronto that you can use for free. This winter activity will surely be a blast!

4). Winter Festival of Lights at Niagara Falls
Not too far from Toronto, head over to Niagara Falls and experience their 40th annual Winter Festival of Lights. This event is a free outdoor light festival that features breathtaking displays with millions of lights. Stroll through and look at the beautiful lights while enjoying a hot beverage available for purchase throughout the self-guided trail.

5). Bloor-Yorkville Ice Fest
Bloor-Yorkville Ice Fest presents Dreams & Fantasies! This event is filled with beautiful ice sculptures. Walk through a stunning winter wonderland with over 40 ice creations made from over 60,000 lbs of ice.

6). Sugar Shack TO
Sugar Shack TO is running from March 11th - 12th this year and is filled with lots of winter fun. General admissions are free and will include live entertainment, a maple sugaring demonstration, a new winter lumberjack show, and much more!

7). Winter Stations 2023
Winter Stations public exhibition is making its return. Winter stations invite the art and international design community to reimagine and rethink the lifeguard stations along the east-end beaches in Toronto for the winter season. Heading into its 7th year this February, see the new imaginations for the city!

8).Go skating
Skating is a classic winter activity that can be enjoyed by all ages. There are many skating rinks and trails where you can skate for free in Toronto. These are some of our favourites: Evergreen Brick Works, Nathan Phillips Square, The Bentway, Greenwood Park, Dieppe Park, and Colonel Samuel Smith Park!
