On April 8th, 2024, a rare celestial phenomenon called a solar eclipse will be happening over Canada, the United States and Mexico. During this unique celestial experience, the moon will align between the Earth and the Sun, immersing everyone into temporary darkness. A handful of cities near Toronto will be offering the best views to see the solar eclipse and here are some of our favourites.
1. Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls will be a popular destination to capture the solar eclipse with 1 million people expected to visit on April 8th to witness this phenomenon. Such a rare occurrence isn't expected to repeat itself until 2144. It is expected that the Sun will be fully eclipsed starting from 3:20 pm to 3:23 pm.

2. Hamilton
Hamilton stands among the select few larger cities in Ontario situated in the path of totality, where lucky observers will witness the moon's complete coverage of the sun. There will be a few designated locations in the City of Hamilton to catch this phenomenon, including Tim Hortons Field, Bayfront Park, Pier 4 Park, Hamilton Conservation Areas and more. The total eclipse is expected to occur at 3:18 pm and will last for under two minutes.

3. Kingston
The eclipse in Kingston is expected to begin at 2:09 pm to 4:34 pm, with the totality expected to take place from 3:22 pm to 3:25 pm. Click here to find all the prime spots in Kingston to capture the eclipse.

4. Belleville
Belleville will be another city near Toronto that will be in the path of totality. The Moon will completely block the Sun between 3:21 pm to 3:23 pm.

5. Brockville
Brockville will find itself in the path of totality on April 8th. The eclipse totality for Brockville will last for about 2 minutes and 47 seconds, starting from 3:24 pm. Plus, a community total eclipse viewing event will be held on Blockhouse Island in Brockville that you don't want to miss.

6. Cornwall
Cornwall will also be in the path of totality during the solar eclipse. This rare celestial event, where the Moon aligns perfectly with the Sun will take place from approximately 3:24 pm to 3:27 pm.
