The Michelin Star is known worldwide as a symbol of excellence for culinary establishments; it originated at the turn of the twentieth century as the Michelin Guide was created by Andre and Edouard, the same brothers that founded Michelin tires. Turn the clock forward 120 years, and their guide has expanded beyond their homeland of France and to 37 countries worldwide, where restaurants are awarded stars based on five criteria:
- Quality of products.
- Mastery of flavour and cooking techniques.
- The personality of the chef represented in the dining experience.
- Value for money.
- Consistency between inspectors’ visits.
Yesterday, Michelin published their first Canadian guide, and featured 13 restaurants within Toronto. Let’s take a look and see which restaurants made the cut and earned their spot amongst the world’s elite!
