This popular winter activity is making is return to the city this season. Just like every year, there are a ton of free outdoor skating rinks in Toronto for everyone to enjoy. Whether you’re a seasoned skater or just lacing up your skates for the very first time, here is where you can skate for free in Toronto this winter.
1. The Bentway
Glide along the enchanting 220-meter figure-eight skate trail with vibrant woven arches inspired by the northern lights. Back for its 6th year, this popular event will feature free skate rental nights, free hot chocolate nights, skating lessons, Polar Bear Skate, and more. Winter skating at The Bentway officially begins on December 16th!

2. Nathan Phillips Square
Head over to Nathan Phillips Square and enjoy the Cavalcade of Lights. The festival kicks off on November 25th with live performances and the lighting of Toronto's Christmas tree. Throughout the season, you can enjoy ice skating and be mesmerized by the enchanting light displays in the heart of downtown Toronto. Plus, on December 2nd, DJ Skate Party will be taking place from 5 pm to 8 pm, where you can skate to the beats of Canadian-Tamil artist Lady Pista.

3. Evergreen Brick Works
Free outdoor skating at Evergreen Brick Works returns on December 10th! This free public skating is both an indoor-outdoor experience, with the roof of Koerner Gardens open. Make sure to enjoy the refreshing and cute views.

4. Mel Lastman Square
The skating rink at Mel Lastman Square is set to open on November 25th! This popular spot for free outdoor skating in North York is situated inside a beautiful park featuring 20,000 square feet of open space, an outdoor amphitheatre and more. During winter, the pond is frozen to become an outdoor ice rink.

5. Colonel Samuel Smith Park
Colonel Samuel Smith Park is where you can find the city’s first ice skating trail (in a figure-eight shape). Located behind Humber College’s Lakeshore Campus and along a stretch of wooded shoreline, this skating location is a popular one you have to check out.

6. Barbara Ann Ice Trail at College Park
Barbara Ann Ice Trail is located at College Park and is a popular spot in the city for free outdoor skating. To celebrate the reopening of the Barbara Ann Ice Trail, a fun event will be taking place on December 9th that will feature DJ music, free skate lending, skate performances, photo ops, games and activities for the whole family.
